I'm so excited!! [08 May 2007|10:53pm]

So, for my birthday, I'm hoping on getting a Clarinet. (I've been asking for one for 3 years!)
Since I can't ask for a crazy expensive Clarinet, I was thinking on this one:

What are your thoughts? How is the Prelude overall?

I've been playing for about 3 years (I'm in the 7th grade)and I have a hard time getting notes above high G, and get a good tone. Any suggestions?

If someone was going to start playing the clarinet tomorrow, what 3 pieces of advice would you give them?

1. Practice!
2. Get good reeds.
3. Take good care of your clarinet.

the b and c on my clarinet do not work. (middle register i guess), but e and f kind of work, they dont feel right, but the notes come out.
i would take it somewhere, but i dont think there are really any places to take it.
if anyone has any ideas let me know!

I need to play a chromatic scale up and down as high as I can go for an audition I'm recording soon. No big deal, right? I've done this a gazillion times.

But something's not right, and I can't for the life of me pinpoint it and fix it. Every time, when I get to altissimo E, F, and F#, the right notes don't come up. Instead, much higher notes (the A and then whatever notes the fingerings for F and F# can also produce) come out, and the when I play the G above them... the G does in fact come out right every time, which is partially what is throwing me off.

Sometimes I can get the E to come out before the F or F# mess up, and occassionally the E and F, but I only got the F right less than 10 times in a straight-hour's worth of trying to fix this, and the F# never once played right.

I don't know what to do. I moved my embouchure all around - more mouthpiece, less, to the side, to the other side, more bottom lip, less bottom lip, more pressure, less pressure, etcetera. Nothing helped

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thank you!

Hey, clarinetists!

So, I'm busy preparing my chair placement audition, and I was flipping through some sheet music, and I stumbled upon something I'd never seen before.  What does it mean when there's a little x next to a note?  It's before certain sixteenth notes, and I was just wondering if any of you knew.

Thanks!

Clarinet choir! [15 Aug 2006|12:20am]

noscream_bone
So...I've decided to attempt to arrange Brahms' Hungarian Dance No. 5 (a rather intermediate-hard version of it) for our clarinet choir this year (Solo & Ensemble, fun stuff). Our instrumentation is something like Eb Clarinet, Bb Clarinet (1-2-3), Eb Alto Clarinet, Bb Bass Clarinet, Eb Contra-alto Clarinet (maybe), Bb Contrabass Clarinet (maybe). Basically, once I finish it, will someone with Finale look it over for me?

Also, I have a few other opinion-type (or not) questions. The one about the Eb clarinet slipped my mind, but generally, the bare bones of the bass clarinet parts are all the same, right?

I'm thinking about trying out for All-State Lion's band this year, but i really need a solo. If anyone has one, that would be the appropriate difficulty level, for a 6th year clarinetist (i'm first chair out of 21 clarinets) then i would really appreciate it. Finale would be great, but if you don't have it on finale, then any format is fine. THANKS SO MUCH!!
and send me any and all that you have...so i can look at them all
THANK YOU!!!!

Hello, clarinet geeks!  :]

Well, school starts for me tomorrow, which means that we're really getting into marching band mode.  Wahoo!  :D  So I was just wondering what your shows are this year, and if you have any cool parts or whatever.  We're doing the Blues Brothers, and the music is just amazing.  If you want to listen to it, go here--

http://www.ehseagleband.org/2006music.htm

The third song (Soul Finger) is kind of screwed up, so it doesn't sound that great.

Yep.  Our new marching director is sooo awesome.  :)  I love him.  lol

Comments!  :P

PS. If you feel like browsing through our pictures, go to the clarinet section one, and I'm in the middle of the bottom row.  ;)

hey!
i got a question for yall... i'll probly feel really dumb when i know the answer but anyways...  in the Rubanks Advanced Method for clarinet volume 1, on page 70 ("Aria") measure 21 theres a simi-colen ( ; )right after the quarter note.... is that a pause or a typo... or is it something compleatly different... just wondering in case i see it later in other pieces of music

thanks!
